Short stories - do you read just short stories, just novels or both? Why or why not? What do you prefer/dislike about each format?
Non-Fiction - do you read non-fiction books for pleasure, (ie not counting text books required for courses or for work)? What areas of non-fiction interest you the most? What are some of your favourite books from those areas?
Fan-Fic - do you read fan-fic (stories written by fans of a given author or series)? Why or why not?
How about self-help books - Have you ever read a self-help book? What do you think about self-help books in general? Would you ever recommend a self-help book?
Hi Laura! Two ideas... Re-reading: Do you ever reread your books? If so, which ones? If not, why not? Do you read the books the whole way through or pick through for favorite scenes? What about the books make you want to reread them/what qualified a book for the reread pile?
Reading/Finishing books: Do you finish every book you start, no matter how bad it gets? If so or if not, why? Do you ever sneak-read the ending before you finish the book? If so, what about the book tends to cause you to do so?
I came up with a few suggestions. I'll keep posting as they come to me. I would hate to see this meme shut down.
Are there any books (outside of 'school' books) that you know you should read, but haven't? (For example, you know the author, or you've read the rest of the series...) Why haven't you gotten to them?
Do you have any autographed books? Do you have a story behind the autograph?
Have you ever stumbled on a reading and found the author so charming you started reading their books? Or, have you ever met a formerly favourite author and stopped reading their works because of how they treated their fans?
How about format... Do you buy just hardcovers or just paperbacks or a mixture? How do you decide which format to buy for a given book? Which do you prefer reading?
I have one(I don't think we've done it before). Do you have a favorite character(s)? What book/author is he/she/it from? Why do you like this person--what is it about the way he/she was written that drew you to them? Is there something more you would like the author to tell you about them?
One I did on my own today, since there weren't new questions(hope everything is okay) I called six degrees of booking. Connect any six books in your library. It's a little different but it was fun and a challenge. You can check out what I did at the following link:
Laura, have you ever done a BTT where people put their current list of books to read? I don't know if anyone else does it, but I always have a list in my computer of books I want to read (a lot of them on the list now are from other BTT players!)
How about books that have great "food" or "eating" scenes in them. I can't read Joy Luck Club without thinking that I need to learn to make good potstickers or wontons. Ethnic literature, inparticular, seems to have great food scenes.
Another one: Have you ever missed an important appointment because you have become so engrossed in a book you forgot the time or were up so late reading that you didn't wake up in time?
Autographed books - yes or no? If no, why not? If yes, personalized or just the author's signature? Do you actively try to get books autographed, or just enjoy them when they are available? Any interesting autographed books in your collection?
Culling Do you cull your library? If so, how do you pick which books to cull? What do you do with the culled books - donate to library, take to used book store, give away, etc?
Reading the end of a book Do you read the end of the book before the rest of the book? If so, why? If not, what do you feel about this habit?!
(Note, my mother will frequently read the end of a book first. If she doesn't like the ending, she doesn't bother reading the rest of the book.)
No entertainment is so cheap as reading, nor any pleasure so lasting.

PS: I really like Marie's suggestions, too.
How about format...
Do you buy just hardcovers or just paperbacks or a mixture? How do you decide which format to buy for a given book? Which do you prefer reading?
Another thought...
new authors...
How do you decide to read a book by an author you haven't read before? What sort of recommendations count most highly in making that decision?
What about abridgements? Good introduction to long, boring classics, or a blight on literature? If abridgements have their place, what is it?

I have an idea...
Book characters you'd:
*like to have dnner with
*believe would be the best to help you out in a crisis
*have their autograph
*most identify with personally
*pick your own

PDA or eBooks
- Do you read eBooks?
- What do you use to read eBooks - your computer, a PDA?
- What do you like about eBooks?
- What do you dislike about eBooks?
Writing in books
- Do you make notes in books as you read them?
- Why or why not?
Sorry if these have already been covered, but I have not been here long.
1)Where do you get your books and what do you do with them afterwards.
Library, bookstore, online bookstore,friends,
Book Crossing, book club etc?
Do you give them away, sell them, hoard them, return them to the library or the wild afterwards?
2)Do you fold the corner of the page over to mark your place or do you consider it heretic vandalism of sacred books?
3) Do you read in the bath and if so have you ever dropped a book into the water?
4)If you lend someone a book do you expect to have it returned?
5)Do you find yourself attracted to certain books because they are made from a certain kind of paper or just have "something" about them?
6)Have you ever laughed out loud whilst reading in public? - what were you reading? Did anyone notice and look at you funny or move hurriedly away?
Another one: Have you ever missed an important appointment because you have become so engrossed in a book you forgot the time or were up so late reading that you didn't wake up in time?
